As a child and teenager, Sondra and her mother traveled whenever possible to foreign countries, thus evoking Sondra’s curiosity about other lands. Her Mother’s ‘Travel Bible’ was the book, Europe on Five Dollars a Day.

Sondra Graduated High school, started college, was married to a Military Officer and had children at an early age.

Eight years after their marriage her husband was deployed to Turkey, where the nightmare began of his being taken hostage by the Turkish government and Sondra’s determination to save his life.

After returning from her ordeal in Turkey, Sondra remained dedicated to helping the military family while serving as a local and International elected officer for both Officer and Enlisted organizations. As Vice President and Legislation Committee Chair for AFSA Auxiliary, she fought vigorously to protect the medical benefits for her fellow military families, winning the AFSA Presidential award.

After her children were grown, Sondra called upon her early experience—having grown up in a family run business—and her Degree in International marketing to develop a large International Customer Satisfaction analysis company.

Her love of nature, mountains, water and beautiful blue skies, drove her to relocate to Lake Tahoe. This passionate curiosity about the world has led her in life to help bring out the “brave” in everyone she knows.

This Book ~ is based on the true story of an Air Force Officer who was assigned to a tour of duty in Turkey in 1963. Moreover, it is the story of his young wife and their small children who joined him.

You will feel the fear of two parents when their son was kidnapped!

Turkey was at war politically with Cyprus at the time of her husband’s deployment. The Turkish Government was resolute in their commitment to force the United States to support the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

As a means to gain leverage against the United States, the Turkish Government arrested three American military men on trumped-up charges and held them as political prisoners. The Turkish Government, determined to prove they were in control, would escalate the charges according to the amount of pressure the Turkish authorities wished to assert against the United States.

Back home in the United States, there was no mention in the news media about the military men held in prison. It is clear the United States Government was committed to keeping the matter quiet at all costs.  This is a poignant story of ardent love, humor, intrigue and unmitigated fear!

Being a reserve military wife, who’s husband is also now a firefighter, just back from the Camp fire in CA. I thank you for recognizing us. Yes, we military and responders wives, have to pull up our BRAVE, as did you. I loved your book. A friend of mine let me borrow it. Now I want one of my own, hopefully some day for you to sign.

Sondra Garner's novel "Line of Communications" puts you right in the thick of things while she was a military wife in Turkey with her family.  You feel as though you are living the experiences through her eyes and truly don't want to put the book down.  Great read!.

Once started, I couldn't put her book down. I read it front to back in one long sitting. Sondra's tale of a new military wife's woeful and challenging experience while accompanying her husband on what was to be an exciting assignment in a "friendly" foreign land set a bad precedent that was not supposed to be the norm. What occurred to her and her family in the late 60’s is exactly the same political and military news flashes that gain headlines in the Nightly TV News today, and with the same country, Turkey!   Sondra's style of writing takes you into the interesting daily issues of the time, finding deep friends and serious foes.  The reality she faced with the "political" imprisonment of her Air Force Surgeon husband and the kidnapping and ransom of her young son grasp at your heart strings.  A tale with many turns and twists; this is a must read for all current military and DoD members who are anticipating foreign assignments.

I don't ever do this, but I have to share this story with my friends! This is a new book AND OMG IT'S AMAZING. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ IT. Sondra, at the urging of many of us, wrote this book based on her life. She was a young woman, a young wife, and a young mother, and she took her family to Turkey with her Air Force husband. The rest... holy cow. It's like an action spy movie, I literally sat on the edge of my seat READING A BOOK. You will not regret buying and enjoying this book, please share this far and wide.

Frankly I found this book to be extremely intriguing. I bought this book for it’s historical value as I had been stationed in that part of the world. but there was so much more. I could not put the book down. Stayed up all night reading the thing. What a determined, gutsy lady. I thank her for honoring all the military and responder’s wives, they are rarely recognized for” their service to the country”.
